Buttermilk Syrup

  • 1 cube butter
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/8 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla


Melt butter over low heat in a 1-1/2 to 2-quart heavy saucepan. Add buttermilk, sugar, corn syrup and baking soda. Increase heat to medium and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. The mixture will foam. Continue to stir and simmer for 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Let stand for a couple of minutes and it’s ready to pour over your pancakes or waffles.
