Microwave Caramel Corn

  • 4 quarts popped popcorn
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla


Put the popped popcorn in a large, grocery-sized paper sack. Mix together the brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and salt in a 2-quart, microwave safe bowl. Microwave 2 minutes on high. Stir. Microwave 2 more minutes on high. Stir. Microwave 1 more minute on high. Add baking soda and vanilla. Mix well. Pour over popped corn in sack. Shake sack. Microwave 30 seconds and shake. Microwave 30 more seconds and shake. Pour on buttered sheet to cool.
