Ingredients

  • 16 large mushrooms, stems removed
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 8 ounces Italian sausage
  • 8 ounces extremely well-drained frozen spinach
  • 1/2 cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 4 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Romano cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 2 cups tomato cream sauce (1-1/2 cups of your favorite seasoned marinara sauce mixed with 1/2 cup of cream and 1 tablespoon of butter)

Instructions

Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F. While the oven is heating, prepare your mushrooms by removing the stems. Brush the mushroom caps with melted butter and set them aside.

Next, sauté the Italian sausage over medium-high heat, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks. Once the sausage is thoroughly cooked, remove it from the heat and drain off any excess fat. To the cooked sausage, add the well-drained frozen spinach, Italian breadcrumbs, softened cream cheese, grated Romano cheese, and garlic salt. Combine these ingredients well to create your stuffing.

Now, it’s time to stuff your mushrooms. Spoon the filling into each mushroom cap, packing it down and rounding it over the top. Pour the tomato cream sauce into the bottom of a baking dish large enough to hold all the mushrooms. Arrange the stuffed mushrooms in the baking dish.

Bake your stuffed mushrooms for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until the mushrooms are cooked and the tops are golden. Once done, let them cool slightly before serving. These stuffed mushrooms are best enjoyed warm with friendly people. Serves 6 to 8.
